Founded in 1997, the Artist in Residence Programme invites artists from around the world to come to Bermuda and continue the tradition of our island serving as an unrivalled international artists’ colony.

Current Artist in Residence Joe Sweeney —  Click HERE for more details on his show.

Housed in the town of St. George’s (UNESCO Heritage Site) in a Bermuda National Trust building apartment, 4 artists come to Bermuda each year for up to three months each, to work and share their artistic and cultural experiences with the children, adults and art community of Bermuda.  During the stay each artist conducts workshops of their own, host a slide show lecture, and where possible, contributes to the museum’s other education programs and classes. At the end of the stay, each artist offers an exhibition of his/her work and makes a gift of an artwork to the Collection. This programme provides locals with valuable exposure to an outside artistic influence, which enriches our community and lends direct expertise to our Educational programme initiatives.

Masterworks’ Artist in Residence Program has been introducing Bermuda to artists from a variety of different global geographical locations, from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Jamaica, Russia, Bulgaria, the West Indies, and Spain to name a few.

Volunteer with our Artist in Residence Guild — Meet our wonderful visiting artists and learn from their diverse experiences! Volunteers are essential helping hands to visiting artists, and act as ambassadors to our beautiful island. Join this active program and get involved with Artist in Residence events, hospitality, and exhibitions!
