The Green Family & Berco Ltd.
In Collaboration with The Masterworks Museum
Launch A Middle Schools Painting Challenge
Middle school students across the island are being offered the chance to exhibit their artistic talents this spring at a prime site on Pitt's Bay Road, Pembroke. Developers of the former Waterloo House location, The Green Family & Berco Ltd are offering the huge hoardings as a canvas to create a 180' public art mural. All middle schools across the island are invited to submit sketches on the theme, "Bermuda, My Home" and ten will be selected to participate.
With $8,000 in prizes being offered to the schools, it is anticipated that competition will be keen resulting in a series of quality works of art. Andrew Green of Berco Ltd., designer & sponsor of the project commented, "The Green Family is delighted to work with the schools of Bermuda for them to display their talents and to enhance the site with scenes from Bermuda. We are very grateful for the support from these schools and Masterworks and hope that these works will give pleasure to both tourists and the people of Bermuda". Dr. Lou Matthews, Director of Educational Standards & Accountability at the Ministry of Education supports the programme and said, "This is a fine example of the private, public & cultural sectors joining together to offer a unique opportunity to our students to showcase their talent. I commend The Green Family, Berco Ltd and Masterworks for this creative collaboration." Tom Butterfield, Masterworks Museum Director added, "We're delighted that The Green Family & Berco Ltd. have given us the opportunity to take arts to the streets."
Sketch submission deadline is Friday, March 26th with the young artists completing their work on site the week of April 12th. Application form and rules can be found by clicking HERE.

Masterworks’ purpose is to enrich the community through art and education, and as such, we have formed a number of partnerships with other local organisations to help us reach this goal. Some of our partners include:
The St. George’s Foundation

www.stgeorgesfoundation.com
In honour of the 400th anniversary of Bermuda’s settlement, Masterworks partnered with the St. George’s Foundation to run an art show where Bermuda students were asked to create five in by seven inch historically themed original postcards depicting the links between Bermuda and Virginia. Over 1,000 entries were received, and the artwork was on display at the ACE Gallery in Hamilton, and will move to the World Heritage Centre in St. George’s on July 1st and remain there until the end of August.
A selection of 200 cards will travel to the Muscarelle Museum of Art in Williamsburg, Virginia and will be on display from August 3rd – 23rd.
Thanks to the Bermuda school community who embraced this project in your classroom.

The goal of Big Brothers & Big Sisters is to create and support one-on-one relationships between caring mentors and young people in need. Through these consistent, long-term relationships with positive role models, our young people, who are primarily from single parent homes, are able to measurably enhance their emotional, social, and recreational well-being and reach their full potential. Masterworks is pleased to allow all Bigs and their Littles into the Museum free of charge to come and learn about the museum and Bermuda’s culture and history.
